Dissent

Don’t you feed your propaganda into me
Your immaculate lies and your bigotry
As the fascists clear the way for their victory
You stand by and watch them idly

Don’t your curtail me with your regulations
Your sorry attempts at forced manipulations
Freedoms are not granted but inherent to man
Yet they’re slipping through our fingers like grains of sand

And someone right said “fight or shut up”
And he paid for his vision with his life
And someone stood up for his fellow man
And he paid for his vision with his life
If it had meant a damn today I’d be singing our praises
If we remembered a thing that they said we’d be coming up roses

Dissent is more patriotic than obedience
Will there be anyone left to leap to your defence?
Your safety will collapse and swallow you
As they pull the earth out from under you

And someone right said “fight or shut up”
And he paid for his vision with his life
And someone stood up for his fellow man
And he paid for his vision with his life
If we had learned from the past I’d be singing our praises
If we honored the principles for which they stand we’d be back in good graces

The endless parade of faces they say they give you choices
but it’s all in the name of perpetuating their agenda
and it becomes apparent
as out comes the riot gear again every time you raise an objection,
It’s out with the riot gear again.  Every time we peaceably assemble…out with the tear gas canisters again and again again…
